Description The Jurassic Ammonite Hildoceras sublevinsoni for sale is 11.5 cm or 4.5 inches in diameter. The shale slab is 34 cm x 22 cm or 13.5″ x 8.5″. The back of the slab has a wall mount installed. The Jurassic Ammonite Hildoceras sublevinsoni is from the Oelschiefer. The Oelschiefer is the name for the Posidonia Shale in the Holzmaden area, Germany. It was used to produce oil in the 19th and early 20th century. Due to better resources in other places it became uneconomically. Today the production of oil from Oelschiefer is also considered environment unfriendly. Now the only working quarry in the area is the Kromer quarry in Ohmden next to Holzmaden. A black/grey decorative stone is mined out of the lower parts of the quarry. The fossil comes from above those layers. The primer Capaplex is applied to the fossil. This is done to all fossils from the Holzmaden shale in the preparation process to make them more stable. Information about fossils from Holzmaden can be found for example here: https://www.mineralienatlas.de/lexikon/index.php/Genehmigungen/holzmadenfossilien.de#Medientabelle100 Click on the species and pictures open up.
